In Orissa Diwali is meant for Kali Puja and also for lighting the lamps for forefathers. It is celebrated as New Year and Laxmi Puja in the North India and West India. So accept love of God as it comes to us in whatever form Kali or Laxmi, but Light is Universal and so is Festival Of Lights. Here is a small poem on Kali.
Mother with the garland of skulls, people do fear
Please wear a garland of wild flowers and be here
Handpicked by me and woven for you, my dear Mother
Please drop your sword, call with your flute Mother!
Yasoda made you dance and you danced to her tune Ma
Why did you lose that beautiful form Krishna dear Ma?
The whole world dances to your beck and call dear Ma
I know that you dance to the tune of your devotee Ma!
Tears to wash your Lotus Feet is my intoxication Ma
Will clean them with the towel of discrimination Ma
Fears will I have none as you give determination Ma
To do the impossible task of loving your creation Ma!
Mother, Guru and Mantra are One, one who knows is wise
If you cannot reach Her, HER NAME please call likewise
She will come cannot stay away, please don't be blue
Devotion true please awaken with the Guru Mantra true!
A bengali song sung by Ramakrishna:
Yasoda Nachato Mata Nacho Neelamani
Se Rupa Harele Kothay Karalabadani
Ekbaar Naacho Go Shyamaa
Mundamaala Phele Banamala Laye
Naachogo Shyama....
Mother is being asked by Ramakrishna to dance so I translated that song for Mother to play the flute dropping her sword.
Lots of Best Wishes for a wonderful Deepawali.
