Marriage

Marriage;

In Indian culture, marriage is a social institution.

How do you define Marriage?
Do people really know what marriage is!!! If yes then why is the divorce rate so high!!

It’s a beautiful association of two souls coming together and becoming one, two physical bodies uniting to be one. There are millions and billions of people in this world and out them there is only one single he/she who is going to be your better half. Does this thought scare you?

I don’t think so it’s such a scary thought. Finding a right partner and getting married it all gets clicked but you should be open for it. People are really scared of marriages, they keep telling me no I am not ready for it. Does getting married means you have to reproduce? This is what most of the to be couples think and stay back. In this case you have not yet understood what marriage is. Its not about reproducing, its not about staying together, its not about managing the home, its not about handling the finances, its not about taking care of one another, its not a burden, its not a tension and of course its not a compromise.

It is one of the most beautiful gifts given to us. In this crowd there is someone who is your other half, physically as well spiritually. He/she makes you complete and the journey to divine begins. It is all about chemistry that clicks. It’s a relation that makes you ‘one’, it’s a relation that leads to happiness, it’s a relation that shares all sorrows, happiness and brings joy of being one, it’s a relation that keeps on growing stronger and stronger, it’s a relation without ego, selfishness and sin, it’s a relation of honesty, loyalty and security, it’s a relation of love and unity.

Once a disciple asked Mother what is marriage and she told her: (March 1933)

To unite your physical existence and our material interests, to associate yourselves so as to face together the difficulties and successes, the defeats and victories of life, this is the very basis of marriage – but you know already that it does not suffice.

To be united in feelings, to have the same tastes and same aesthetic pleasures, to vibrate together in a common response to the same things, one by the other and one for the other – it is good it is necessary – but it is not enough.

To be one in profound sentiments, your affection, your feelings of tenderness for each other not varying in spite of all shocks of existence, withstanding weariness, nervous irritations and disappointments, to be always and in every case happy, most happy to be together; to find, under all circumstances, one in the presence of the other, rest, peace and joy – it is good, it is very good, it is indispensable – but it is not enough.

To unite your mentalities, your thoughts harmonizing and becoming complimentary to each other, your intellectual preoccupations and discoveries shared between you; in a word, to make your spheres of mental activity identical through a broadening and an enrichment acquired by the two at the same time- it is good, it is absolutely necessary – but it is not enough.

Beyond it all, at the bottom, at the center, at the summit of the being, there is a supreme truth of being, an eternal light, independent of all circumstances of birth, of country, of environment, of educations, the origin, cause and master of our spiritual development – it is that that gives a definite orientation to our existence; it is that that decides our destiny; it it in the consciousness of this that you should unite. To be one in aspiration and ascension, to advance with the same step on the spiritual path – such is the secret of a durable union.

In Love,
Anand
